We also have a new garden mascot named Todd. He is my sister's new, recently adopted dog. He has been watching everything and is beginning to get mischievous. Tonight he took a pack of seeds and then one of my gloves to use as a toy. He seems to really like nosing around and checking it all out.
My husband has been tilling the garden until the soil is perfect. It is hard to tell from the photo but the soil is really nice and most of the weeds are gone. He has tilled it three times. It is best to till just before planting.
Last night we planted the rest of our summer squash. This year we planted it in hills with around six seeds to a hill, a little fertilizer and then formed the hills.
It is hard to see because it is getting dark, but the little mounds are squash hills. I am hoping when they come up, the squash plants will cover the ground and the weeds won't get enough sun to thrive.
Tomorrow we hope to finish everything but our corn and peas and are also hoping the rain comes after that. At the seed store today, I heard someone say they now were wishing for rain, after wishing so much for dry weather. I couldn't help but agree.
